WEST
BOYLSTON — The Bicentennial Players from Major Edwards Elementary
School presented “My Town, My World” last Friday, in recognition of
“Incorporation Day.”
Students from grades 4 and 5 accompanied the players for the musical
numbers during the afternoon performance, which was the first of two
held that day.
Before the Bicentennial Players took the stage, Ezra Beaman, played
by local historian Frank Brown, made an appearance and educated the
audience about life back in 1808.
“There were no Ipods, no cameras, but the one thing we did have was
school,” Beaman said. “We would be in school for several months, and
then we would be off for several months so we could work on the
farm.”
Starring 27 students from the fourth and fifth grade, the players
portrayed the town’s founders and heroes, including Ezra Beaman,
Robert Thomas (founder of the Farmer’s Almanac), Major Victor E.
Edwards, Robert O’Brien (of Bob’s Hot Dogs) and Army Specialist Kyle
Little, who was killed in Iraq last year.
