BOYLSTON — The winners of the West Boylston historical essay contest
went into Boston recently to receive a proclamation declaring March
7, 2008 West Boylston Day in Massachusetts . Governor Deval Patrick
presented the proclamation to Essay winners Matt Gomes, Nathan
Bricault, Kaleigh Ryder, and Nicole Ellis. The fifth essay winner,
John Welch, was unable to attend.
Included among the invited guests were the parents of the students,
members of the Board of Selectmen Val Pruneau and his wife, Jackie,
Allen Phillips and his wife, Mychelle, and Chris Rucho and his wife,
Julie. Neil Norum attended representing the town’s veterans and
Nancy Barakian represented the Senior Center. Historical Society and
Bicentennial Committee Members Aaron and Beverly Goodale also
attended.
Jared Fancy who dressed as the young Ezra Beaman, presented the
governor with some Bicentennial gifts, including a coin and a
children’s book, “The Tale of Ezra Beaman,” written by Benjamin
Fancy and illustrated by Jared Fancy. The group was given a tour of
the State House and was provided with a lunch by state Senator
Harriette Chandler and state Representative James O’Day.
Patrick praised Fancy’s work as an illustrator, and when it was
pointed out to him that the Goodales are Fancy’s grandparents, he
said, “You must be very proud.”
