WEST BOYLSTON — In
anticipation of the Revolutionary War re-enactment and related
events during the weekend of June 6, 7 and 8, Police Chief Dennis
Minnich has announced places where parking will be prohibited.
All of the parking restrictions are based on pedestrian safety and
access for emergency vehicles, according to Minnich.
“We’re trying to be as reasonable as possible, because we do want
people to go to the events,” Minnich said. “But we can’t have it so
that emergency vehicles do not have access to where they need to
go.”
Minnich said areas that are already no parking zones, like Routes 12
and 110, both state highways with parking prohibited by law, will
remain no parking areas. Areas where people might be unaware of
parking restrictions will be clearly marked with signs, indicating
parking is prohibited per order of the police chief.
The Bicentennial Committee has arranged for parking lots at
Wal-Mart, Salter College and Checkerboard Limited to be open for
public parking during Saturday’s events.
The Bicentennial Committee has scheduled buses to drive people to
and from external parking lots to the center of town, and to Camp
Woodhaven, where the battle re-enactment will take place. The cost
is $2.50 round trip, with a $10 family cap. The bus stop near the
commons will be on the Fay Brother’s side of Route 12, Minnich said.
Bus service ends at 10 p.m., following the concert on the common,
expected to end around 9 p.m.
Parking restrictions will include the following streets. Vehicles
parked in these areas will be ticketed and towed:
• Church Street: Both sides of Church Street, which wraps around the
commons on both sides of Route 12, will be closed to parking and
traffic on Saturday.
• Campground Road: Parking will be banned on Campground Road and
Camp Woodhaven all day Saturday, the day of the battle re-enactment.
• Routes 12 and 110: state highways, no parking at any time.
• Franklin Street: Parking will be banned on both sides, for the
length of the street.
• Prospect Street: Parking is banned from Central Street to Route
12.
• Scarlett Street: Parking will be banned on both sides, for the
length of the street.
• Route 140: Parking is banned from the Route 12 intersection to the
Our Lady of Good Counsel rectory building. Parking will be allowed
on the northbound side only, from Franklin Street to the rectory.
• Newton Street: Limited street parking will be allowed, on the
northbound side of the road, from the Beaman Library up to Prospect
Street. No parking is allowed on Prospect Street.
• Central Street: Parking is banned from the Route 12 intersection
at the common to the Beaman Library. Limited parking, on the
northbound side only, will be allowed from the library to the
Darby’s/Meat market plaza.
• Lower Goodale Street: Parking will be banned on both sides of
Lower Goodale Street, which runs from the railroad bridge on Route
12 to the softball field at Pride Park.
Additionally, Minnich said several known parking areas have been set
aside for re-enactors and vendors taking part in the activities.
These areas, which will be closed to public parking, include: the
police fire station lot, Reservoir garage and the Historical
Society.
“There will be very few areas to park,” Minnich said. “People might
be better off taking the bus and not having to worry about where
their car is.” |
