Old Stone Church to be celebrated this weekend

WEST BOYLSTON — The Historical Society is sponsoring Old Stone Church Day – a self-guided tour of the Old Stone Church, the Masonic Lodge and the Bigelow Tavern – as part of its regular April meeting.

The day starts at 11 a.m. at the Old Stone Church where a ranger will be there until around 12 p.m. to answer questions and give a brief talk on the history of the church.

From 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m., people will be able to tour the Masonic Lodge on Church Street and see the original windows that were removed from the Old Stone Church, along with other artifacts, including the pews and altar. A display of contemporary artwork and photography of the Old Stone Church will be on display in the lower level of the hall during this time.

From 12 until 2 p.m. the Bigelow Tavern will be open to the public, showcasing artifacts form the Old Stone Church as well as archival photographs. Ezra Beaman himself might show up.

Light refreshments will be served at the tavern.

People are invited to attend one or all of the events at their leisure. Light refreshments will be served at the tavern.
