Firefighters’ muster comes to town

In celebration of the town’s bicentennial, the West Boylston Firefighters Association will host the 82nd annual Firemen’s Muster on June 15. There will be fire trucks, food and fun for the whole family, and a special guest appearance by Smokey Bear.

Events will begin with a parade at 12:30 p.m. on Central Street, at the town common.

Firefighters from Berlin, Bolton, Boylston, Harvard, Holden, Princeton, Sterling and West Boylston will are scheduled to attend. This year’s muster also marks the return of Holden to the Wachusett Muster League after an absence of over 20 years.

Games and other events start at 1 p.m., including ladder races, pump races, broken hose, a bed race and a women’s event, among others.

June 29: Cruise Night on the Common, classic, antique, special interest autos, in conjunction bandstand concert.

July 20: Cruise Night on the Common, classic, antique, special interest autos, in conjunction bandstand concert.

July 25-26: Circus Smirkus, Goodale Park. For information, check www.smirkus.org.

Aug. 10: Cruise Night on the Common, classic, antique, special interest autos, in conjunction bandstand concert.

Sept. 20: West Boylston Arts Foundation Arts Festival, Goodale Park, 10 a.m.

Sept. 20: Community bon fire, Goodale Park, 8:30 p.m.

Sept. 21: The Bicentennial Parade, 2 p.m., followed by concerts on the football field. Parade route runs Worcester Street to lights at 12 and 140, turning left onto Central Street to Crescent Street, ending at Goodale Park.

Sept. 21: Fireworks, 8:30 p.m. at Goodale Park.

Oct. 25: The Historical Society’s Cemetery Walk. Mount Vernon Cemetery, time to be announced.

Nov. 1: Open house United Methodist Church, North Main St., Oakdale, 1-4 p.m. Nov. 5: West Boylston’s Italian immigrants and the building of the reservoir, 7 p.m., sponsored by the West Boylston Historical Society, location to be announced.

Dec. 7: Open house, Bigelow Tavern, 3-5 p.m. Tree lighting and caroling on the common at 5:15 p.m.

Also available is the official West Boylston Bicentennial program.

The glossy-covered booklet has the bicentennial logo on the front. Inside, along with a list of events, there is a brief history of West Boylston, a copy of the 1808 incorporation document, a poem about West Boylston by Shirley Smith, a walking tour of the commons area, the story behind the bicentennial logo and many other exciting things.

The bicentennial program costs $3 and is available at the Historical Society and other places selling bicentennial souvenirs.
