Cookbooks, road race mark Bicentennial

WEST BOYLSTON —
The Bicentennial cookbooks have arrived.

There are 250 recipes from town folk, past and present, as well as from Lt. Governor Tim Murray, state Senator Harriette Chandler, state Representative James O’Day, and Town Administrator Leon Gaumond Jr.

The book is profusely illustrated with photographs taken around town by local photographers Bonnie Fancy, Joseph Lajeunesse and John Schlicte.
 
There is also information on the history of the town as well as nutritional helps and guides.

The recipes include many ethnic and classic dishes, making it a great gift for anyone who loves to cook.

The bicentennial cook- books are available at JR’s, the Council on Aging, Pruneau’s Barbershop and the Historical Society.

The bicentennial cookbooks cost $15. Checks may be made out to WB200.

On June 7, there will be a 5K race around the Thomas Basin in West Boylston to raise money for the West Boylston Bicentennial celebration.

The 3.1-mile race starts at the high school on Crescent Street and proceeds to the village of Oakdale, then onto Route 140 past the Old Stone Church, across the causeway and onto Goodale Street.

The race ends at Major Edwards Elementary School. Three medals will be awarded in each class

Water and refreshments will be provided during and after the race. Runners may pre-register.

Registration by mail is $12 if postmarked by May 31. Registration is $15 for anyone who registers after May 31 or at the high school from 7:30 a.m. until the race starts at 8:30 a.m.

Runners who pre-register should arrive at the school by 8 a.m. The first 100 people to register will receive free T-shirts.

All participants will get a free raffle ticket. Additional raffle tickets are $1 a piece; six for $5.

Timing will be by the Central Massachusetts Striders.
