Bicentennial weekend possible. Some have
been involved for many years and others
assisted days before and on parade day.

Festival, fire and parade cap
yearlong celebration

WEST BOYLSTON — Unofficially, the
celebration of the so-called
“Bicentennial Weekend” started with
Friday’s high school football game
and ended Monday, when many took the
chance for a collective “phew.” In
between, thousands visited West
Boylston for the weekend full of
events that included concerts,
plays, a college fair, food, a
parade and fireworks. And, by
Monday, organizers were calling the
weekend a success.

Incorporated
in 1808, West Boylston was created from parts of Shrewsbury, Boylston,
Lancaster, Sterling and Holden. These lands had been parts of earlier grants
made to the settlers of the region.
The
18th century witnessed the arrival of pioneers attracted to the area by the
fertility of the soil and the opportunities for development afforded by its
location at the site where the Quinapoxet River joins the Stillwater River to
become the southern branch of the Nashua River.
